Skateboarders in Motion
Recently I have enjoyed taking on photographic projects that tell a story rather than focusing on individual images. For one of my projects my instructor encouraged me to take images of people in motion and obtain an individual portrait of each person. I visited a local skateboard park and spent many hours over several weeks and days to find talented skateboarders who could fly high enough to make the images interesting. I was asked to present them in a diptych format which is presented here. I found it interesting spending time with the skateboarders and learned the younger more skilled skateboarders refused to wear a helmet and they tended to be more daring in their jumps. I also found boys who were in grade school all the way up to adults in their 50’s. Regardless of how cold it was as long as it was not raining these folks could be found practicing their skills for many hours at a time.
